Here is the answer: God made a way where there seemed to be no way. He stood between His people and Pharaoh's chariots, and then He opened a dry path right through the sea. The Israelites walked through it, and on the other side they sang.

Nowhere to run
Think about how it must have felt. God had led His people out of Egypt, guiding them with a pillar of cloud and fire. Then they came to the sea, and Pharaoh's chariots were coming up behind them. Water in front, an army behind. No one could have blamed them for being afraid.
But look at where God was. The pillar that had been leading them stood between the Israelites and the chariots. They weren't left to face the danger alone. God was right there, in the very place they needed Him.

A path no one expected
Then God did something nobody had planned for. He opened a dry path through the sea. The people didn't have to build a bridge or find a boat. God made the way, and they walked it.
For a child, this story shows something simple and steady. Sometimes the problem looks too big. But God is with us when we are afraid, and He can make a way when we can't see one.
"The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." (Exodus 14:14)
That verse is a good one for little hearts to hold onto. Being still isn't easy for a scared child, or for a scared grown-up. It means trusting that God is the one doing the fighting.

Talk about it together
- The Israelites were afraid. What do you do when you feel afraid? What could you remember about God then?
- God stood between His people and the chariots. How does it feel to know He is with you?
You might also ask your child to picture the song the people sang once they were safe. What would you say thank you for?
